Prednisone 40mg 5-day dosage gave immediate relief from my anxiety at nighttime and libido went up.
So weird! Got Prednisone for some allergic dermatitis and they told me not to take it near bed time because it makes you wired. Not the case with me! I still take it in the morning but by night time I actually am tired and sleep without needing to take my anxiety medicine. I've been on Xanax for over a year to help me sleep at night. Its great! I hope for the short time I am on it it will just get me into a better sleep pattern!

Long story short, I have PTSD as well and was suffering nightly horrific nightmares, I am on morphine, gabapentin, plaquenil and anti-depressents (2)..I stumbled upon a treatment that for me has been fairly bulletproof.. I take 1 mg of Ativan/Lorazapam before sleep and it blocks the nightm

High doses of prednisone have had the 'speed' effect on me. I felt great with lots of energy and happy but I couldn't shut up. It wasn't a problem for me, I liked it. My dose that day was probably 30 mg. Now I stay at 20 or under for inflammation of my bronchial tubes and don't take it if it isn't absolutely necessary. I'm also not good with 'weaning myself off' of it, as the doctor said to do but I have no side affects besides a bit of face swelling after a couple of days on it. Keep your dosa

hya ,I have been on prednisone for 3 months and ,when I was on 40mg a ady I was talking all the time ,doing my sisters head in ,it was a side effect for me ,also very aggressive and personalty changed dramatically ,just started swelling in face neck top of arms ,and distended abdomen ,I have thyroid eye disese and thyrotoxicosis also on immune surpressants so hopefully after 6 weeks of these a can come down off steroids

I was orig put on hydrocortisone, my joints all went bad, I had confused brain and memory loss. Then they put me on prednisolone, god I was in a rage all the time. At the end of 3 weeks my brain felt like it was going to burst. I'm being told I need steroids to live. But since I've taken them I'm just egsisting. I have trouble walking, my feet are so painful and my brain is mush.

I was put prednisone for wheezing. I am 46. On day 4. My heart
Rate is going down to as low as 52. I have dry mouth and
I'm talking more than normal. I have anxiety normally
And I'm freaking out about my heart rate. I can't confirm that its the
Prednisone but my heart rate is typically fast.
I am afraid my heart is going to just stop.
Marnie46  |  March 29, 2014
Prednisone had a similar effect on me. I became a lot more violent and easily irritated. I found that normal things would set me off and make me rageful. My mood was almost bipolar. It does go away once off the med for about a week or so. The mental changes are not permanent at all, but they are definitely the result of Prednisone.
March 24, 2014
Yes, definitely. This has happened to me as well as my sister, especially when the steroid (prednisone) levels are high. Talking more like if your really have too much caffeine in your system, also constant urination (more at night) and lastly sudden changes in mood.

yvonne  |  April 15, 2014
I was on 80 mg a day at the peak and it made me quite angry and violent. I was never near suicide but it definitely messed with my mind. However, I found that this effect ended about a week after I stopped taking it, and I did not have any serious withdrawal problems.

Yes, "speedy and talkative" is a common effect. The psychotic effects can kick in on higher doses. My husband was on 160 when he became psychotic the first time and 90 the second. What is important is that depression can occur while coming off, even tapering the correct way. Doctors know about that. What they need to also know is how to treat those who do show extreme lability. What you can do is make sure your doctors are aware.

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. I am wondering if my mom will get like that when she stops the prednisone. While on it, she is speedy and talkative and child-like acting. I'm wondering if it will be like a crash effect when it gets out of her system. Was your husband ever speedy and talkative on it?

trunkel obesity caused by prednisone

I am currently in Anatomy and Physiology II at Northwest Florida State College and it sounds like you might have Cushing's Disease. General signs and symptoms of this includes fat redistribution (Truncal Obesity) and weight gain. However, it is treatable because all it is, is an overproduction of the hormone Cortisol. With that being said, just tell your family physician that you need a lab for your Cortisol/Corticosterone levels. Hope this helps!!

I have wasted lots of money in doctor offices and at the pharmacy, not to mention the time spent not feeling very well.
The thing that helped me the most has being visiting the acupuncturist . She also prescribed Chinese herbs for joint pain, etc. And she has provided help with the right foods to eat at the right time, and more importantly the foods to AVOID. I did not know that sugar causes pain. It causes swelling and therefore pain. I can not have one spoonful of flavored yogurt w

I had the same symptoms for months before being diagnosed with PMR. Predisone is the only medication that will help this disease. 2 years later and I'm still on a daily dose of 5.5mg the good news is that predisone is cheap and has long term data on it and low doses are pretty safe. I am going to acupuncture to try and get off the predisone. good luck.

yes taking too much prednisolone can raise your cortisol levels causing obesity ie, cushings disease and un fortunately the only way to get rid of it is exercise, and also metabolic tests to check insulin levels hopes this helps

I would try to find a good acupuncturist and tell your story to them. You might be surprised by the pressure points that can help with emotions, meaning too much manic, or not enough. It would be worth it to find a good acupuncturist , many ailments are treatable, with swift results.
