5-htp should not be taken with ssri... I take 300 mg per day, since 2008, no such effects. (while having lot of anxiety, i am not scared of 5-htp...)

I am taking Celexa an SSRI and wanted to taper off so I went from 20mg to now 10mg which sucks for my mood and headaches. I took one pill of the 5HTP to offset my deminished Celexa and waited 15 minutes and ate some ice cream ~ I immediately felt numb, cold sweats, clammy and vomited all of my ice cream, bummer, I'm scared to try another 5HTP pill :(

There are many things wrong with this post.

Serotonin syndrome is not caused by an impurity in a supplement. Serotonin syndrome describes a rare state wherein the body makes too much serotonin or doesn't clear it properly, usually because two or more medications affecting serotonin levels have been mixed. This usually involves large doses of something like a cold medicine being taken on top of an antidepressant or recreational abuse of a substance that affects serotonin levels. (Robitussin, f

what brand were you using? did you ever look up literature to see if they conducted an assay on your particular brand? 5HTP is a naturally occuring chemical in your body and generally those who are depressed have a deficency. I think you are correct about it being synthetic but it sounds like they were selling something other than advertised. Lastly, eosinophils are a natural type of white blood cell in every human. they can be involved in serious blood disorders but those with eosinophils so

So sorry you experienced that, I was warned that taking 100mg is the max daily and only if you really are not getting it anywhere else. (turkey, walnuts, other foods that produce it) I only take 50mgs and 100 on occasion.

Definite symptoms of serotonin syndrome, perhaps your body already had a balances serotonin level prior to taking 5htp

Cipralex vs Effexor

I was first treated with Cipralex, for Depression NOS, but it made me numb/depressed after 3 weeks. I eventually self-diagnosed with cylothymic disorder and my new pdoc has me on Effexor. It has almost instantly knocked out my ptsd. There are usually a couple days of exhaustion and restlessness when raising dosage. Despairing thoughts no longer frequent the mind. Course of treatment -1 year.

This drug is horrible. It gave me a headache everyday for 6 weeks. I went off of it, and was extremely ill. I couldn't even get out of bed one of the days....sharp head pains, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea. DO NOT take this medication until you learn the withdrawal symptoms. Easing off of it slowly just prolongs the agony.

I concur wholeheartedly! "SO, don’t criticize Effexor because it didn’t give you what you were looking to get – embrace it because it takes you to a better place that you never knew existed. But you have to want to go there, to find your true self." Well said. By-the-by; I was recently rx'd a serotonin making drug called amyltriptaline- poof; brain favors it truly. Utopia might be some Mu receptors and Celebrex; then no unnecessary toil on my brain nor being nor spirit. Ah, but such is lif

I was diagnosed with BPD and PTSD 22 years ago after a TBI. I've been on Effexor and Aderal since. I can't live without Effexor, it stabilizes my disregulated emotions but does nothing to stop the flashbacks. The only thing that I've found that will do that is Opium, which I don't want to go there, or some strains of canibis, which I do. I'm sill trying to find a pharma solution. My new research stream is that maybe adding Aricept might help. Anybody have any experience with that?

I was on high dose effexor and also "lost" several years. I simply STOPPED taking this drug, and with the help/love/understanding of my wonderful lady, I have (so far) been able to function without it. For the first time in a long while, I am aware of what I am doing. It has been five LONG months, but..... I CAN DO IT!!

I can totally empathise with you I feel exactly the same - I am suffering from Anxiety & Depression have been taking venlafaxine and flupentixol for years and although I am much worse without the meds I still manage to embarrass myself on a regular basis to the point my eldest son is ashamed of me and doesn't care about me anymore. I worry constantly that the rest of my family will soon decide I am not good enough for them also and they will start to look down at me and decide to disown me, too

I understand what you are saying and how you feel. I think my son cares as well as a few other people but they are just tired of hearing it. I know I am and I'll bet you are too. I don't have any magic words. I wish I did.

I've been taking 5-HTP for chronic anxiety disorder (CAD) and depression for about 3 years now
and have never experienced what all the above have. You start out slowing taking 5-HTP, as
indicated on the bottle, and I never exceeded 3 per day. I'm now down to only one per day,
stated on the bottle, and I never took it before bedtime. I don't have anxiety or depression while I'm sleeping, so why would I need to. My doctor paired it with Gaba Calm, so ask your health

I heard that it could cause aggression and road rage type symptoms. I have not experienced this though, and I've been taking it for about 4 weeks. I've actually had more restful sleep since starting it and seem a little more relaxed.
